No, no, no… Sadly we’re not planning a trip to Scandinavia…
On Saturday, we tried out Manly new-ish Scandinavian delight mecca: Fika Swedish Kitchen and we loved it! Great vibe, friendly staff, attention to the smaller details… And, of course, delicious scandi food!
Fika Swedish Kitchen
Every day – 7am to 5pm
5b Market Lane
Manly NSW 2095
The name is inspired by the Swedish tradition of a coffee break. ‘Fika’, which in Sweden is almost a social institution, a sacred moment of talking and meeting people. You can fika at work by taking a “coffee break”, fika with someone like a “coffee date”, or just drink a cup of coffee. Apparently, the word was created by exchanging syllables in the word ‘kaffi’ – the 19th century version of ‘coffee’.
We shared a “Swedish breakfast tray” that includes a ham + cheese bun, muesli + yogurt, a boiled egg and the cutest freshly squeezed orange juice. But they have my heart with the teapot-sized tea cups!
It’s hard to pass up the cinnamon buns – delicious!
The sunshine-yellow injected bright and chirpy decor is a lesson in Nordic minimalist design. (Yes – Yellow does make everything better!)
The menu even lists both Vegemite and avocado toasts; Stockholm with Sydney’s sunshine, the best of both worlds!
